What is Gastroparesis

Gastroparesis is described as a syndrome of impartially delayed gastric unfilled in the deficiency of mechanical obstruction and cardinal symptoms including premature satiety, postprandial fullness, vomiting, nausea, bloating, and upper abdominal pain; the same constellation of complaints may be seen with other etiologies, include gastritis secondary to Helicobacter pylori infection, peptic ulcer, and functional dyspepsia. Means of Gastroparesis is weakness of the muscles of the stomach. Gastroparesis results in based grinding of food in the stomach into little particles and slow emptying of food from the stomach into the small intestine.

Symptoms have not been well connected with gastric emptying. Nausea, early satiety, vomiting and postprandial fullness connect better with delayed gastric emptying than upper abdominal pain and bloating. The epidemiology and impact of gastroparesis are reviewed in another place.

The ground solid and liquid food is emptied from the stomach into the small intestine gradually in a metered fashion. The metering procedure allows the emptied food to be well-mixed with the digestive juices of the little intestine, pancreas, and liver and to be absorbed well from the intestine. The metering procedure by which solid and liquid foods are emptied from the stomach is a effect of a combination of relaxation of the muscle in parts of the stomach planned to store food, and the force produce by the muscle in other parts of the stomach that pushes the food into the little intestine. Therefore, the stomach can store and empty food at the same time. The metering also is controlled by the opening and closing of the pylorus, the muscular opening of the stomach into the little intestine.
